Installing maXfolders

maXfolders Pro isn't on the Mac App Store, but it is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple — so unlike a lot of directly-downloaded apps, there's no Gatekeeper warning to click through. Two steps and you're in.

Download and copy the app to Applications.
Download maXfolders from the Download page, unzip it if your browser did not do that already, then drag maXfolders.app into your Applications folder.

Open it.
Double-click maXfolders in Applications. The first time, macOS shows the normal "downloaded from the internet" confirmation and asks you to click Open — that's it. Because the app is notarized, you won't see the "cannot be opened" / "unidentified developer" block that unsigned apps trigger, and there's no trip to Privacy & Security required.

Why there's no warning to work around

maXfolders Pro is signed with a real Apple Developer ID and notarized by Apple's malware-scanning service, then stapled with the notarization ticket. Gatekeeper checks that on launch and lets it run — the multi-step "Open Anyway" workaround only applies to apps that skip signing or notarization entirely.

Full Disk Access

To browse Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and other protected folders, add maXfolders in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access. Click + and choose maXfolders from Applications, or drag it onto the list. See Docs for details.
