Get maXfolders Pro

This is maXfolders Pro — the embedded terminal, Finder integration, the Git Assistant and iCloud Photos, on top of everything else. It's not on the Mac App Store, but it's signed with a real Apple Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple, so it opens with a normal double-click, no security warning. Use it free for two months; after that it is unlocked by the maXfolders purchase on the Mac App Store, which includes a Pro license. Here is how that works.

What you need

macOS 14 Sonoma or later
Works on current macOS as well. maXfolders Pro isn't sandboxed — that's how it reaches the embedded terminal, Finder integration, and Full Disk Access.
Apple Silicon or Intel
A universal Mac app. No Windows or Linux build on this page; this is the native maXfolders app.
A few megabytes on disk
The zip is 30.1 MB. After you drag the app to Applications, you can delete the zip.

Install

Put it in Applications

Unzip maxfolders-2.3.0.zip if your browser did not unzip it already.

Drag maXfolders Pro.app into the Applications folder. It sits next to the Mac App Store edition, maXfolders.app, without replacing it.

Open it — a normal double-click works right away, no security warning to click through.

Updating from 1.6.57 or earlier? maXfolders Pro used to be named maXfolders.app. Once maXfolders Pro.app is in Applications, move the old Pro copy to the Trash — check first that its window title says maXfolders Pro, because the Mac App Store edition is also called maXfolders.app.

Permissions

Full Disk Access

To browse Desktop, Documents, Downloads, and other protected folders, add maXfolders Pro in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access. Click + and choose maXfolders Pro from Applications, or drag it onto the list. (The Mac App Store edition doesn't need this step — it asks for each protected folder the first time, through the normal macOS permission prompt.)

From inside the app you can use File → Install to Applications Folder… and File → Full Disk Access Settings….

Windows NTFS disks

macOS mounts NTFS volumes read-only. A pane on such a disk shows a Read-only badge. Copy from the disk still works. Writing needs a remount from a tool such as Hasleo NTFS for Mac. Having that tool running is not enough while the system mount stays read-only — eject and mount again from its menu. Also add maXfolders and the NTFS tool under Full Disk Access.
